Friends,
We now have 51 recipes submitted as of tonight. Many more are still needed in order to go ahead with the TC4 benefit cookbook. The encampment desperately needs the funding for things like tents and tarps that wear our rather quickly since they are constantly exposed to sunlight and the weather. Another ongoing expense is bus tickets for the residents to get to and from work and interviews. With rare exceptions, it is OK to submit a favorite recipe from another source. An everyday favorite is every bit as appropriate as your most glamorous holiday dish.
See this article for more information on submitting a recipe.
This is a great opportunity to generate awareness and funds for TC4. Could really use some help, though…
Would anyone be interested in helping out with the design, artwork or input on the personal pages? We have some limited page space to fill with info (I can pass along the specifics).

We really need your recipes for the tent city cookbook. Below are the complete instructions for how you enter recipes onto the computer. We can only accept two recipes from each person. However, you are welcome to enter recipes for family members that gave you recipes. I put in recipes from my aunts, my grandmother, my mom, my daughter, and a few former members of my family. We still need over 200 recipes to go ahead with the project. That shouldn’t be a problem considering all the great cooks that support tent city. We want recipes that serve anywhere from 2 to 100 people, so any recipe you have should work. The recipe book will go to support the replacement of tents and tarps and to provide needed bus tickets for the residents to get to and from work and interviews. We have extended the deadline to September 15th.

Tent city is now located at Temple B’nai Torah. The address is: 15727 NE. 4th St., Bellevue, WA 98008
To book a meal at Tent City 4 you must first go to the calendar site: http://prem.calendars.net/TCmeals. Once you’ve selected a date e-mail your request to TC4volunteer@templebnaitorah.org to confirm that that date is still available. You will then receive information on what is expected as far as what you need to bring with you and where to go. You will be serving outside this site. Because the site is a Jewish Temple and must keep kosher we are unable to use the kitchen. Please bring your meal completely ready.
Call me at 425-823-1629 if you have any questions.

This is a hard message for me to send. It is the first time that I have requested funds for tents and have had no response. My husband and I have so much faith that the supporters of Tent City4 will always come through, that we go ahead and order tents and tarps when the camp requests them. We never charge extra for the interest charge on our credit card, because the funds have always gotten here on time. When extra monies are donated Kirkland Interfaith Network holds those funds until we need them. Over the years that we have supplied Tent city4, we have learned a lot about what tents and tarps hold up and are well priced. Like all of you, we are volunteers and like all of you are feeling the budget crunch of today’s economy. If no funds come in to cover the tents and tarps we ordered, we will deliver them anyway. Unfortunately we will not be able to order tents and tarps in a timely manner in the future as we will have to raise the funds first.
Here is the information:
Tents:
It has been a long time since we had to order tents. The Gigatents we order are lasting over 2 years. Compared to any other tent we have ordered that have lasted only 3 to 6 months. Unfortunately we still need to replace some tents. We have not yet supplied the whole camp with Gigatents. We do that as they need them. I just sent the order in for 6 of the 8’ X 10’ tents and 2 of the 8’X8’ tents. We also ordered 8 heavy duty silver tarps (they last about 16 months). These tents and tarps are used 365 days a year in all kinds of weather. Most family tents are only rated for one season and expected to last only three years at two weeks a year, in the best weather. These tents and tarps are rated for three seasons and our own experience with them at tent city far surpasses any other tents that have been donated or that we have purchased.
The cost plus shipping (shipping alone is $387.) is 1097.67. If you can help with these costs please send a check to Kirkland Interfaith Network with Tent City4 in the notation space. Those checks can be sent with your KIN rep. if your church is a part of KIN otherwise please send the checks to Kirkland Interfaith Network
6430 123rd Ave. NE
Kirkland, Wa 98033
Please put TC4 in the notation space. Call me, Sandi Hunt, if this is unclear to you at 425-823-1629.
There are 350+ names on my email lists I send out. This notice also goes on the web site. If each of you sent just $3 we could cover this cost. I am so sorry to have to bug you all again. This is why we so desperately need to get the cookbook project up and going. We could also use a grant writer.
