Tent City 4 Needs List December 7

Great News:

A company that found it was too much of a headache to send tents to Haiti donated 50 single tents to Tent city4 instead. They are not of the quality we order, but free we don’t argue with that. I do hope the folks in Haiti got all the tents that they need there. This donation will let us use funds we have to purchase a few more of the heavy tents that will hold up a lot longer than the blue tarps. One silver heavy duty 14’X 20 foot tarp will last about 2 years. Using larger tarps we are able to cover the couple tents completely. Tarps protect the tents from wear from water, freezing and UV. UV just eats up tents. These tarps cost $35 dollars each including shipping. I ordered 20 yesterday and will order some for single tents and more for double tents with money we raised at the two alternative gift fairs we took part in. I also ordered 6: 8’ X 10’ couples tents yesterday. A big thank you to the company that donated the tents and to a donor who sent in a $500. Several groups and individuals donated rice bags, hotties, gloves, and hats when the weather was so cold they are greatly appreciated. Donations are all that stand between Tent City residents and the weather.

Tent City4 is now at St. John Vianney Catholic Church at 12600 84th Ave. NE, Kirkland Wa 98011

Why I Stay At Tent City 4

via Kirkland KOMO News

“This is my house,” Bruce Thomas says while gesturing at a tent at the Tent City 4 homeless encampment on Thursday.

“I’ve been homeless about 10 years. Lost my wife and children to a drunk driver.”

The former D.C. lobbyist who once owned a waterfront home and sailboat now stays here on the property of St. John Mary Vianney Catholic Church with his milk crate furniture.

Support Tent City 4 at Kirkland Interfaith and Northshore Church of Christ Gift Fair

Thank you to all who sent money for tarps. We got enough in to order 30 new heavy duty tarps. Every tent for now is dry.

We will be participating again in the Kirkland Interfaith Network Alternative Gift Fair and the Northshore Church of Christ Alternative Gift Fair in Woodinville. These are both excellent opportunities to give a gift that really counts to your family and friends while helping charities. You make a donation in the name of the person you normally give a gift to. The charity will give you a gift card that explains what their gift goes toward. I do it with my family and everyone likes it. No regifting! It is also a wonderful way to find out who is doing what for good causes. We will be there to raise funds for tents, tarps, and bus tickets. The dates are for Kirkland Interfaith Network it is Nov. 13 at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 105 State St. just ½ block from the library. The fair will go from 10am to 4pm. The Northshore Church of Christ Fair is Dec.4th from 9am to 3:30pm.

Tent City 4 Moving to Saint John Vianney Oct 23

Tent City 4 Moving Next Saturday. Move day is fast approaching. TC4 will be moving to Saint John Vianney (SJV) on Kirkland’s Finn Hill on Saturday, October 23. Volunteers are needed to shuttle campers from BCUMC to SJV. Shuttles will start around 10 a.m. with a shuttle load or two every hour until the camp is finally disassembled and the old site cleared and cleaned up around 3 or 4 p.m. If you can help with one of the shuttle runs, stop by the front entrance of TC4 and sign-up for a time that you will help shuttle campers. This will help ensure that we have the right balance of shuttles throughout the day.
